Laura Blanco's early childhood in the historic section of El Vedado, in Havana, Cuba, and her family's roots in Spain, have provided her with the inspiration for much of her work in design. It was only after a return to Havana after decades of exile, that she understood how much her work and in fact her life, were intimately tied to the culture and history of this very European city founded in the 16th century. A visit to the home of her great aunt, a family gathering place and now a museum in Havana, reinforced her ties to an earlier time when art and architecture converged to become driving forces in family life.
